Comenius

The first thing we’d like to say is that this trip was a good thing for all of us, we had wonderful relationships with our different penfriends and their families and friends. This experience has allowed us to have another vision of Turkey, nicer and warmer than what we usually see on TV news.
One week before leaving and going to Turkey, we  were really afraid of how we would be welcomed by our penfriends and their families, how they would be when we would be in their flats.

Even if we had spoken to  them on facebook, and created connections, we were still nervous about other people. Some of us wrote all our feelings in our travel books during the trip.  Everything was easier when we arrived and met them: all the families and penfriends were waiting for us in Buyukcekmece. We spent the whole week with them: We visited the city, the big bazar and ate in a typical Turkish restaurant. We took some photos and practised sports with teachers, this was really pleasant and funny. In the afternoons we visited monuments, factories, went on horse riding. This was so great and we visited the old Istanbul too and even a mosque. In fact, in only one week we visited wonderful places and met wonderful people. We tasted all meals which were typical Turkish meals,  some of them had bad taste but others were really good.

In a nustshell this week was filled with happiness and amazing encounters, and we discovered a country  we didn’t know anything about ; besides, now, we know some words in Turkish.

Insects, food of future !

The permanent increase of the population will oblige us to eat insects in a few years. Indeed, cattle, pigs, sheeps and chicken farms require many space whereas the insects need less space.
small pea and these worms of flour
There is a restaurant in the Bretagne  the chief David Faure offers dishes with insects. In some countries the population already eat insects, for example in Mexico and in Colombia, the people eat the insects. An American expert has calculated that eight kilogram of crickets do 23479 calories either 43 hamburgers. While, we already eat about 500 grams of insects per year. May be that in 5 years the population will eat insects.

Would you eat insects ?

Do you want a pizza with animal protéins which comes from Insects or towards flours. A restaurant in Guidel a city which is loacted in Bretagne in France serve this kind of food . Yes I know, it seems disgusted but the restaurant serve this kind of insects are hidden in the pizza.
In the future, because of the demographic increase, the traditional breeding could not give animals proteins enough.

But it is easy to breed insect, quickly, with not a lot of water, and surface ground. This breedings are environmental safely.

We already eat some insecst about 500 g when we are riding a bike or in the jam, the fruit juices, the bread…

Our ancètres from Lucy the australopithècus to Cro-Magnon were eating such a lot of insect that they wer be able to eat the all termite’s nest for breakfast.

About 1.2 millions of people already eat insects in Asia, Africa, South America. In Colombia, people eat ant like caviar.

The European community give 3 millions of euros to scientific research to consumption of insect.

So will you eat insects?

Travel in Greece

In September, I went in Kilkis in Greece. I was stressed because it was a first time that I went in a country without my friends or my family.
When we arrived in Greece, a Greece teacher we brought in Kilkis in car. I was afraid because I did not understand Greece teacher. She spoke quickly!
When I saw my correspondent, I was not stressed because Kiki, my correspondent is a nice and beautiful girl, and her friends too. Her friends spoke and laughing with us. And his mother speak a little French, it was good for me to communicate
We visited a cave, Kilkis, a wine factory, a traditional food factory in Goumenissa, the Archaeological site of Vergena and Thessaloniki
Thanks to this travel, I progressed in English, and I learned to speak with different people. I learned different cultures.
If I could do this trip, I would like do again.
As for me, this travel was very enriching.

My travel in Greece

In the last week of September, I flew to Greece. I was a little stressed because it was the first time I took the plane. However, I was very excited.

We first started seeing Greece from the plane : it was a gigantic view, there were swimming pools, big houses, I liked this landscape.

We arrived in Thessanoliki airport, the scenery was very beautiful. An English teacher drove us to go to Kilki which is a small deserted town. People were very nice, there was a right friendliness. We spent the night in a hotel.

On the following day, we met our penfriend. Mine, Anastasia was very beautiful, generous, and friendly . Her family loves Paris. Her mother and sister speak French.

We did many activities : we visited museums, a wine factory, a cave and Thessanoliki.

Even though I haven’t progressed a lot in English, I managed to communicate with people.

I think we were very lucky to be in this program : we visited new countries, where the cultures and customs are different. This journey has opened our minds and has been an unforgettable experience.

Thank you !

Mobility to Romania From the 12 to 19th of may 2013

During Oyster Fest, we got the opportunity to discover a wonderful, colourful country.

Romanian people gave us such a warm welcome, that we immediatly got a positive image opposed to that of the « Roms » we usually have in France .
Romania is rather a modern country in evolution between two periods : we could meet cows and sheeps on the road nearby huge SUV’s.
In fact it’s a multicultural country where all the specialities are well represented. Romanian rather speak Italian or English but not a lot of French. We tasted gastronomic specialities : lambstew with rice cooked as risotto and traditional cakes as desert. We drank « Muscat » wine with the main dish and Grappa to finish with coffee. What surprised us , was Sherry as an aperitif and not a liquor.
Each time we felt contradictions between a 50 year-old way of life and modern life .

We visited a technological highschool where they study catering or hairdressing with few resources. People are rather environmental-friendly : wood is the main material used to build houses and for heating. Each house in the countryside owns its garden and people rear cows or sheeps. Romanians are able to be self-sufficient.

This travel has given us the opportunity to keep in touch with pupils and teachers and it opened our minds and offered us a new way of life. We hope to go back to Romania this summer.

Travel in Spain : 11/11/13-16/11/13

It was a great experience for us because the Spanish way of life is so different from ours. For example, the prices are very cheap and politeness is not the same as in France.

Our welcoming was very warm. In one week, we had a new family, new parents, and new sisters or brothers.

Spanish people wanted to fatten us !!!! Because they offered us so much delicious food like tortillas, churros or gaspacho.

They always cook with olive oil so food is so fatty at the end. Their breakfast is very generous, it’s like a morning lunch ; in fact for Spanish people it’s such an important meal : we had pieces of toast, tomatoes, olive oil, serano ham, orange juice.

At night, everybody is in the street, because the weather is fresher so it’s more pleasant.

This interresting trip has made European students closer from each other.

In the project, there were six countries, which spoke six different languages .

We haven't progressed a lot in English but we have progressed more in Spanish. On the first day, it was dificult to understand what Spanish students were saying but on the last day we understood more because we knew each other better and we no longer were afraid of speaking a foreign language.

For the first two days, everybody wanted to go back to France because we weren't comfortable and we felt alone.

Day after day, we started feeling better and at the end we wanted to stay in the Spanish families. On the last day, it was the hardest day, everybody was crying, all the families and the students.

We practised lots of activities but those that we prefered were:

  • A visit of the Alhambra with everybody
  • The castle of Alcala La Real, because the landscape was really beautiful
  • The olive factory, because we could try the olive oil. And it’s one of Spain’s most famous products
  • Hiking in the Natural Subetica Park
  • We cooked altogether to prepare « tortillas » and fried chicken
  • We practised some sport activities like frisbee and hockey
  • We went shopping in Malaga
  • During our free time we could speak with a lot of people to progress in Spanish.

Thanks to Europe we have lived a great and interesting experience. Allthe students were Europeans, even if we had some different cultures we could speak, have fun, laugh together.

We want to say « THANK YOU EUROPE » because without you we couldn’t have lived this travel in the beautiful, and warming country of Spain .

One of the most important experience in my life

I’m a French teacher. I teach biology and geology in France. I don’t usually work with language teachers. So, the Comenius Project is one of the most important experience in my life.

I think that the general organization is a model of organization. I think that the organization was a very big work from the Spanish teachers. I’m positively surprised by the blog and the web page about the Comenius project.

It is very intelligent to develop the target to create a game : the WIKI. The pupils have to write some articles about their country about the food, the personalities, monuments, etc  with some questions and also they have to read the articles from the other pupils. So they wil be able to play the game.

Personnaly, it was very rich to meet teachers from others countries and to share about our life, our work. I think it was the same for pupils. The Comenius project open our mind about foreigners but also, it open our mind to live with other people.

LA GRANDE BOUFFE

La Grande Bouffe (Italian: La grande abbuffata, English: The Grande Bouffe and Blow-Out) is a 1973 French–Italian film directed by Marco Ferreri. It stars Marcello Mastroianni, Ugo Tognazzi, Michel Piccoli and Philippe Noiret.
The film tells the story of four friends who gather in a villa for the weekend with the express purpose of eating themselves to death. Bouffer is French slang for "excessive eating". (the Italian abbuffata means "great eating").
The first protagonist, Ugo, owner and chef of a restaurant "The Biscuit Soup" decides to commit suicide, probably because of misunderstandings with his wife. The second is Philippe, a somewhat important magistrate who still lives with his childhood nanny, Nicole, who is overprotective of him to the point of trying to prevent him from having relationships with other women, and who fulfills her own sexual needs with the judge. The third character is Marcello, an Alitalia pilot and womaniser, who is devastated by the fact that he has become impotent. In the first scenes in which he appears, he is intent on making one of his air-hostesses carry off the plane an entire Parmigiano for the villa where he will meet up with the other three protagonists. The fourth and final main character is Michel, who is an effeminate television producer, divorced and tired of his monotonous life. The four come together by car to the beautifully furnished but unused villa owned by Philippe. There they find the old caretaker, Hector, who has innocently prepared everything for the great feast, and a Chinese visitor who is there to offer a job to the magistrate in faraway China, which Philippe politely rejects with the phrase "Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes", quoting Virgil.
Once alone, the four begin their binge. In one scene Marcello and Hugo race each other to see who can eat oysters the faster. They discuss organizing a little "feminine presence" and decide to invite three prostitutes (not four because Philippe does not want to participate) to come to the house the following evening. Their breakfast next day is interrupted by the arrival of a school class who would like to visit the garden of the villa to see the famous "lime-tree of Boileau", a tree under which the French poet used to sit while looking for inspiration. The four willingly invite the class not only into the garden but also to view the old Bugatti in the garage and to a magnificent lunch in the kitchen. Above all, they get to know Andrea, the young and buxom teacher, whom they spontaneously invite to dinner that evening. Philippe is dismayed at the notion of the school teacher being in the same company as three prostitutes; he warns her but she appears not to be perturbed. The prostitutes arrive in due course and the atmosphere becomes frivolous and sexually charged. Andrea arrives and embraces the spirit of the party. She is attracted to Philippe, who proposes to marry her.
The eating continues unabated. Ugo is responsible for the preparation of the food. Michel, who seems to have been brought up strictly not to fart, suffers from indigestion. His friends encourage him to let go and fart. He goes to the toilet and causes the sanitary pipes to explode. The house is flooded with excrement.
Frightened by the turn of events, the prostitutes flee at dawn and leave only Andrea. She seems to sense the purpose of the protagonists and decides to help them in their efforts, establishing a tacit agreement and remaining with them until the death of all four.
The first to die is Marcello, after being enraged with his own impotence and following the explosion of the toilet. He becomes exasperated and realizing the futility of the farce, decides to leave the house at night during a snow storm in the old Bugatti that he had repaired earlier in the day with great delight. His friends find him the next morning, frozen in the driving seat. The first suggestion is to bury Marcello in the garden, but on the advice of Philippe (who, being a judge, warns that there is a severe penalty for the illegal burying of a corpse) they place the body in the villa's cold room, where it remains seated and clearly visible from the kitchen.
After Marcello comes Michel, who already suffering from indigestion and crammed to capacity with food (he cannot even lift his legs practising dance, his favourite pastime) literally dies of laughter at the exploding toilet incident. Amid flatulence and worse he collapses on the terrace. His friends place him in the cold room next to Marcello.
Shortly afterwards, Ugo prepares an enormous dish made from three different types of liver pâté in the shape of the Dome of St. Peter, which he serves to the remaining diners, Philippe and Andrea, in the kitchen in view of the two dead friends. Philippe and Andrea cannot bring themselves to eat it however. Philippe goes off to bed leaving Andrea to keep Ugo company during his determined effort to eat the entire pâté. Some time later she later calls Philippe back downstairs to help her stop his friend from stuffing himself to death. They cannot dissuade Ugo however, and end up attending to him on the kitchen table, the one feeding him, the other masturbating him until he dies. On the advice of Andrea, his body is left on the kitchen table, in his "domain."
Last to die is the diabetic Philippe on the bench under the lime-tree of Boileau and into the arms of Andrea after eating a cake she has made shaped like a pair of breasts. He dies just as another delivery of meat arrives. The delivery men react with incomprehension when Andrea instructs them to leave the meat - whole animals and sides of pork and beef - in the garden (the cold room being full). The film ends bizarrely with a scene of the garden filled with neighbourhood dogs, geese and poultry, and meat carcasses.
