GREEK SOUVLAKI
( A recent article in the English edition of the popular Greek newspaper Kathimerini noted that “burger joints are losing the crisis-spawned battle in the fast-food world to their Greek counterpart, the souvlaki shop” ). Souvlaki can be a somewhat a healthy meal, when it is done right, if it contains a small amount of meat, onions, tomato and tzatziki.
Ingredients
1 kg pork ( chicken, veal ) meat
some olive oil
salt, pepper
oregano
tzatziki
1 small onion
two tomatoes cut in slices
Preparation:
Cut the meat in cubes, wash, add olive oil, salt, pepper and onions cut in circles. Put the meat cubes into wood sticks and grill them. When the meat is cooked you add oregano and serve with tomato, onion and tzatziki. You can also serve with pies wrapped or unwrapped.
