Mobility to Romania From the 12 to 19th of may 2013

During Oyster Fest, we got the opportunity to discover a wonderful, colourful country.

Romanian people gave us such a warm welcome, that we immediatly got a positive image opposed to that of the « Roms » we usually have in France .
Romania is rather a modern country in evolution between two periods : we could meet cows and sheeps on the road nearby huge SUV’s.
In fact it’s a multicultural country where all the specialities are well represented. Romanian rather speak Italian or English but not a lot of French. We tasted gastronomic specialities : lambstew with rice cooked as risotto and traditional cakes as desert. We drank « Muscat » wine with the main dish and Grappa to finish with coffee. What surprised us , was Sherry as an aperitif and not a liquor.
Each time we felt contradictions between a 50 year-old way of life and modern life .

We visited a technological highschool where they study catering or hairdressing with few resources. People are rather environmental-friendly : wood is the main material used to build houses and for heating. Each house in the countryside owns its garden and people rear cows or sheeps. Romanians are able to be self-sufficient.

This travel has given us the opportunity to keep in touch with pupils and teachers and it opened our minds and offered us a new way of life. We hope to go back to Romania this summer.
