Where do you come from? Equatorial Guinea

1.- Introduction.

In order to know more about the country our inmigrant students come from, pupils participating in the Comenius partnership from Spain have done this activity. In this post, we're interviewing a student has come from Equatorial Guinea.

2.- Knowing Equatorial Guinea.

Equatorial Guinea, officially  Republic of Guinea Equatorial, is a country of central Africa,and it's one of the smallest country of Africa.

The countries that surround Equatorial Guinea are Cameroon in the northern part, Gabon in the southern part and the gulf of Guinea in the western part, in whose waters are more to the southwest the islands of Sao Tome and Principe.


Equatorial Guinea has about 1.622.000 inhabitants. It' s some important islands like Bioko Island, Annobon Island or Corisco Island. The capital is Malabo, which was called Santa Isabel.


Equatorial Guinea was a Spanish's colony known as Spanish Guinea, until 12th October 1968. Nowadays, Equatorial Guinea is the only country in Africa which his official language is Spanish.

3.- The interview


In our high school, there is a girl from Guinea Equatorial , we have interviewed her. Here's the interview

1. What's your name?
My name is Estrella Abegue Eyui.
2. When were you born?
I was born the 17th February 1999.
3. Where are you from?
I'm from Equatorial Guinea.
4. Where is your mother from?
She's from Equatorial Guinea.

5. Where is your father from?

He's Spanish.

6. Where have you been living before coming to Spain?

I've been living in Bata, in Equatorial Guinea.

7. Which language(s) did you speak in Equatorial Guinea?
I spoke Spanish.

8. How many years have you lived in Spain?

I've lived in Spain for seven  years.

9. Why did you come to Spain?

Because my mother came tu Spain on holidays and she got married with a Spanish man, who is father.

10. What are some of the most famous customs or traditional celebretation in your country?

- 12th October is the day of the dependence of Equatorial Guinea.
- 3 August is a special anniversary of a man because of a coup d'état.

11. Which is the Spanish's food do you like the most?

I really like the paella.

12. Which are the tradicional dishes of your country?

Bambucha, pumpkin, chololate, beans, peanut soup.

13. Do you cook some of this tradicional dishes now, in Spain?

Yes, we sometimes cook them.

14. Tell us a recipe of some this dishes.


4.- A recipe

"Peanut soup"

Ingredients: -Peanuts

                  - Onion
                  - Garlic
                  - Tomato
                  - Meat/Fish
                  - Chicken bullion
                  - Salt
                  - Oil
                  - Water
 How make it :

Brown the peanuts in a frying pan with a little bit of oil.

Then mix it and put in a pot water, onion, garlic, tomato, meat or fish, the chicken bullion and salt and cook it.
Then you must put the peanuts you brown before.


This is a little bit of the incredible gastronomy of Equatorial Guinea.
