HIPPOCRATES OF KOS
Hippocrates of Kos ( 460 BC - 370 BC ) was an ancient Greek physician of the Age of Pericles ( Classical Greece ) and is considered one of the most outstanding figures in the history of Medicine. He is refered to as the Father of Western Medicine. He founded the Hippocratic School of Medicine and he is credited with coining the Hippocratic Oath, which is still in use today.
He was the first to believe that diseases were caused naturally, not because of superstition and gods, that they were the product of environmental factors, diet and living habits. The Hippocratic School of medicine applied general diagnoses and passive treatments. Its focus was on patient care and prognosis, not diagnosis. According to Hippocrates the human body contains within itself the power to heal itself. He categorised illnesses as acute, chronic endemicand epidemic. He diagnosed lung cancer, cyanotic heart disease and much more.

Hippocratic smile and Hippocratic Corpus are his namesakes, too. A lunar crater has been named Hippocrates, in the Harry Potter book series the healer is called Hippocrates and much more.
