LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE

The Mexican movie Like Water for Chocolate  is about the life of a girl who lives in the countryside in Mexico, Tita. The film director is Alfonso Arau and Lumi Cavazos is the main actress. Marco Leonardi plays the role of Pedro, Tita’s lover. The movie is based on the novel Like Water for Chocolate, which was written by Laura Esquivel and became a great success. The film has won lots of awards, such as 10 Ariel Prizes.

The film is a story about love and gastronomy: Tita and Pedro are in love since they met but Tita’s mother, Mamá Elena, decides Tita cannot marry because she has to remain single to take care of her when she grows old. Pedro, who loves Tita deeply, decides to marry her sister Rosaura in order to be close to Tita. When Tita’s sister and Pedro get married, they move to Tita’s house, and Tita starts cooking delicious dishes that express her love for Pedro.

Mamá Elena feels that Tita and Pedro are in love, and she is really angry about it. She tries to separate them, but she finally dies. Tita thinks about marrying another man, a doctor, because she feels her love for Pedro is impossible as he is married to Rosaura. In the end Tita’s sister dies, so the lovers can finally be together. When Tita and Pedro are together, Pedro suffers a heart attack and dies, and Tita eats a match and dies too, close to her lover. The film is romantic and magical, you will really enjoy it.
