VANGELIS PAPATHANASIOU
Vangelis , as he is known worldwide, was born in Volos, Greece. He is a composer of electronic, progressive, jazz, pop, rock and orchestral music. He started composing at the age of 4 and gave his first performance  at the age of 6. He did not want to study music at a school because he wanted to be self taught. However, he studied classical music and painting in Athens. In 1977 he was awarded by the MIDEM prize for the Spiral. In 1978 he worked with the Greek actress Irene Papa in the album Odes, which contained traditional Greek songs. He also worked with Demis Roussos, Anderson Y., and many more. He composed the music for 15 films such as The Missing, The Blade Runner, The Conquest of Paradise for which he was awarded the Echo Awards and the prize of the Gold Leon, Bitter Moon, Alexander, El Greco .. In 1982 he won the Oscar for the best song for the Charriots of Fire. He is thought to be the pioneer for Electronic Sound. In 2001 he gave a concert in Athens, Mythodia, which coincided with the 2001 Mars Odyssey spacecraft enterin the orbit of Mars.
