At the service of two old ladies from Norway, Babette Hersant, French
emigrant cook , spends a large sum won
by the lottery to set up a dinner for twelve people.
The dinners  is a work of culinary art. The Babette's
Feast is a film that refreshes the senses and the heart, but at the same time
and unlike many films about food, is not a voluptuous story. It's joyous,
sometimes funny, and let you have   sort
of  asceticism. Because the goal of
Babette's Feast is not just the gratification of the senses. Behind the
deceptively simple story of the film there
is a sort of fairy tale (or parable) about faith and life.
