Kilkis (Κιλκίς) is situated in the North of Greece near the borders and has been inhabited since the Prehistoric Ages, as documented by archaeological findings in several areas as well as the writings of poets and historians of Antiquity (Homer, Herodotos, Thucydides ).    After the liberation of Kilkis in 1913 refugees from Stromnitsa, Thrace, Pontus and Eastern Romylia came to stay here, bringing with them their history and their customs. Nowadays all that blend of people found the way to live together.   In Kilkis you can see the Byzantine church of Ai Giorgis which was built around 1830, the Archeaological museum, where you can see among other things the 6th century Kouros of Evropos statue, a series of ceramics dating back to the early Iron Age, sculptures from Hellenistic  and Roman Times and many more.   On the hill you can visit the Cave which is full of stalactites and stalagmites. The fossils of hyenas, horses and deer found in the cave show that life existed in the area 30000 years ago.   Two victorious battles, one against the Bulgarians in 1913 and the second against the Germans in the 1st World War took place in Kilkis, the outcome of which is very important and if it was different things would also be diferrent not only for Greece but for all the European countries.   Around Kilkis there is more to see, like the Lake of Doirani, Pikrolimni (a lake with therapeutical clay), mountains, great scenery, the lake of Skra, the Botanical Gardens in Pontokerasia and many more.
