Fried Green Tomatoes.

Fried Green Tomatoes is a movie directed by Jon Avnet and written by Carol Sobieski and Fannie Flagg, who is also the author of the book Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.

It's a very moving and funny film, which tells two stories at the same time: it tells us about Idgie and Ruth, who become friends after Idgie’s brother dies in a terrible accident. They talk and laugh, but finally Ruth gets married and moves to another place. Time after this, Idgie finds out that Ruth is suffering physical abuse from his husband, and Idgie goes to Ruth’s house. After a fight with Ruth’s husband, they leave Ruth’s house and move together; taking with them the baby Ruth has given birth to.  

Idgie and Ruth open a café, and they live happy together till Ruth’s husband comes and threatens to take Ruth’s baby with him. Some days after this, Ruth’s husband is found dead. There is an investigation and a trial, because it is thought that Idgie may be responsible for this.  In the end she is cleared for all charges, and Ruth develops a cancer and dies. Finally, the café closes.

The other story the movie tells us about is the story of Ninny and Evelyn, Ninny is an old woman who’s at hospital and there she meets Evelyn, who is visiting a relative. Ninny tells Evelyn the first story, a story that Evelyn, a bored and timid housewife, listens to enthusiastically. In the end, Evelyn finds out that Idgie is Ninny, and she is just telling Evelyn the story of her past life. Idgie-Ninny moves with Evelyn, and we can guess she’ll be happy till her life’s end.
