Chocolat is a 2000 American-British romance film based on the novel of the same name by Joanne Harris,
and was directed by Lasse Hallström., Chocolat tells
the story of a young mother, played by Juliette Binoche,
who arrives at a fictional, repressed French village with her six-year-old
daughter and opens La Chocolaterie Maya, a small chocolaterie. Her chocolate quickly begins to change the
lives of the townspeople. Other actors are: Jhonny Depp, Afred Molina, Lena Onu
The film was nominated for five Academy Awards,
including Best Picture, but won none of them. It was also nominated for eight BAFTAs, and four Golden Globes, and didn’t win any of them either. It only won
a Screen Actors
Guild Award. This film
is also a desecration of the hypocrisy of a very little town world. There are
memorable scenes where chocolate sweets
are prepared.
