NADIA COMANECI




Nadia Comaneci  (born in 1961) is the greatest Romanian gymnast, the first gymnast in the world to score a perfect ten in an Olympic competition. She won five Olympic gold medals, she is considered to be one of the best sportswomen of the twentieth century and one of the best gymnasts of all time, rightfully known as "The Goddess of Montreal". She is the first Romanian sportswoman honored in the memorial "International Gymnastics Hall of Fame". She won the European championships at the age of 13 (1975) and defended her title in 1977 and 1979. She also won the Olympic championships in Montreal (1976) and Moscow (1980). In 1999 Nadia Comaneci became the first athlete to be invited to speak at the United Nations.
