ANDREA CAMILLERI





Andrea Camilleri (born 6 September 1925) is an Italian writer. Originally from Porto Empedocle, Sicily, Camilleri began  his studies at the Faculty of Literature in 1944, without concluding them, meanwhile publishing poems and short stories. Heis  Andrea  famous for a long series of detective novels set in his homeland, Sicily, in which the protagonist is the Police Inspector Montalbano.
In these texts the food is often an integral part of the story for two reasons: first, it helps the 'author to make it more theatrical the text as the dishes described in great details let the reader to imagine they have them before.
Second, the Inspector Montalbano, during meal time,  finds the flavors, culture and history of his native Sicily.
The fried mullet eaten  in the restaurant of  Calogero  or spaghetti with garlic and oil or those with the pulp of sea urchins prepared at home by her maid Adelina are told in a direct and genuine way  and  they have the effect of inspiring reflections and thoughts to the Inspector or to interrupt his concentration on the job when the pangs of hunger and the desire to enjoy something good begins to be felt in the day.
