LEONARDO DA VINCI

THE LAST SUPPER BY LEONARDO REVEALS NEW SECRETS

The Last Supper continually examined and studied, one of the world most famous picture, reveals new secrets. The students Olivier Bauer, Nancy Labonté, Jonas Saint-Martin e Sébastien Fillion dell'Université de Montréal, of Teology faculty, found a new meaning to the food represented in Leonardo masterpiece. “They asked why Leonardo chose that  particular food which does not correspond to the one described by  the Evangelists” explain Bauer “Why the bread, fish, salt, citrus and wine? Why the overturned saltcellar before Judas? Why the leavened bread? “ The  four students think the  artist wanted to include some his symbols and comments in his work. For example an overturned saltcellar is traditionally  a bad luck sign and they think it can indicate Judas rehabilitation and not his wickedness. Also fish is the theme of some studies. It is a recall to the fact that Jesus spent part of his life near Tiberias  lake and he chose his apostles among the local fishermen. But it is not clear if the picture fish is eel or herring. Someone says that Leonardo was intentionally ambiguous about fish species. The Italian word aringa “herring” is like the word arringa “harangue” that means indoctrination.
