PARC NATUREL DE CAMARGUE

 The Camargue Regional Nature Park is a regional park located in the south of France, to the west of the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It was established on 25 September 1970. It includes a large part of the Great Camargue between the arms of the Rhone delta. It extends over 100 000 ha. 75 km of coastline.
The Camargue, "island exception", known worldwide for its natural scenery and rich culture, is also a land where men and women work ... So succeed marshes, fields and rice fields and greater flamingo farmed and wild bulls ...
The territory of the Camargue Regional Nature Park is open to all, but fragile in its fauna and flora, it requires respect from visitors.
 The Camargue is a major national and European importance for local birds, for migratory and wintering especially since the site was in 2000-2005 the first French site number wintering hosted each year ( 122,000 birds before the Bassin d' Arcachon which welcomes 105,000 ) . The Camargue is also known for hosting the flamingo. It is for this reason that the territory of the Camargue is subject to safeguards and international commitments :
- In 1928 was created the botanical and zoological reserve. The Ministerial Decree dated 24 April 1975 class officially the Camargue National Nature Reserve . It is managed by the National Society for the Protection of Nature. The protected area , mainly that of the pond Vaccarès covers 13,117 hectares. This is one of the largest wetland reserve in Europe. Its habitat includes 276 species of birds including 258 of heritage interest .
- A part of the territory is protected by the European Birds and Habitats Directives , which results in special protection areas (SPAs) and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs ) , collected within the Natura 2000 network.
- In addition, 193,000 hectares are classified as Biosphere Reserve under the MAB Programme of UNESCO.
- Finally , 114 000 hectares of the Gard Camargue and Ile de Camargue ( central part of the park) are inscribed on the List of Wetlands of International Importance of the Ramsar Convention .
