In the mining area of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, 339 dumps are identified. In
1969, the collieries were assigned an individual number for reference, and
exploit them. They are numbered from west to east, from No. 1 to 202. A further
list was created in the 1970s. The sites are numbered from 203 to 260, without
specific logic, each number was assigned based sites that can be exploited.
Some sites are composed of several annexes heaps or satellites, a letter
following the number.
Some are conical heaps, but there are also mixed platters tabular heaps,
or, the rider heaps. Many dumps have been exploited, but relatively few have
completely disappeared.

been inscribed on the World Heritage List of Unesco, 30 June 20121.
